Conformity assessment

This safety assessment covers the five wooden blocks in the Yuyu Curious starter kit (toy identification no. 20210101, 20210102 and 20210103) which we define as toys. The assessment shall address, in accordance with DIRECTIVE 2009/48 / EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL, “the chemical, physical, mechanical and electrical properties, flammability, hygiene and radioactivity hazards that the toy may pose and the potential exposure of the child”.

Chemical evaluation

Yuyu blocks do not use hazardous chemicals. The surface of wooden blocks is done with Osmo top oil or similar oil, which is a paraffin-based natural oil. After drying, the surface treated with Osmo Top Oil is safe and pleasant to handle. It is very resistant to conventional household chemicals and colorants such as juice, cola drinks, coffee, tea, milk, beer and wine. The product meets the requirements of EN 71.3 (Toy Safety) and EN 1186 5/14.

Kiilto B3 wood glue is used to glue the parts of the product together. Because of the glue, care should be taken to avoid putting the toy in the mouth and with young children, it is appropriate to use the toys together with an adult. Product Safety Data Sheet.

Physical assessment

Wood is naturally hard and blocks can cause damage if thrown at people. However, the tasks of the activity cards do not advise throwing the blocks and it is recommended that they are used together with an adult. And actually, this is advised not because of safety reasons, but to bring adults and children together overplay. The blocks do not break into small parts in normal use and are designed to be too big to be swallowed.

As the product has details put together with wood glue, the product poses a choking hazard and thus is not suitable for children under 3 years of age. However, in normal use, the parts do not come loose, which has been verified, for example, by impact and throwing tests.

There are no sounds from the blocks and as part of the play, the sound is moderate. According to the instructions, play moments that may cause noise should be done on the carpet and when listening to sound samples, users should use settings and volume that don’t cause harm to hearing.

Toys are stored in an ecologically produced bag, which also does not emit loose parts, chemicals, sounds or pose a danger to its user.

The blocks and surfacing material are water-resistant, but it is not advised to keep the blocks in water contact often or for a long period of time. However, the surfacing does not come off from occasional water contact.

Mechanical evaluation
